  • I help people with chronic pain learn new ways to manage their pain, overcome traumatic experiences, and create lives they want to live. I use clinical hypnosis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, and Prolonged Exposure therapy as tools to help people move past pain and trauma. I practice in my office in St. Paul, MN, and I also offer online counseling via direct video conferencing throughout Minnesota.
  • Most of the people I see in psychotherapy have chronic pain and have experienced trauma. Sometimes the trauma is the direct physiological source of the pain, such as in the case of a car accident or physical abuse. Other times the trauma involves a pattern of chronic stress, such as a difficult childhood or abusive relationship, and the connection between the trauma and the pain is less straightforward. In both situations, addressing what has happened and working to process those trauma memories can help to reduce anxiety, stress, other trauma-related symptoms, as well as physical pain. By addressing trauma in the context of chronic pain, people are able to access their internal healing resources, resolve emotional barriers to wellness, and learn alternative pain management techniques to get back to their lives. I am passionate about using evidence-based psychotherapy to help people treat the often-overlooked emotional side of their pain and get back to the lives they want to live. I graduated from The College of St. Catherine/University of St. Thomas School of Social Work in 2009 with my Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW). I have a Masters of Arts degree in Germanic Languages and Literatures from Yale University, and I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Grinnell College majoring in German with a concentration in Linguistics. I am a Diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, a certified Prolonged Exposure Therapist, have completed EMDRIA-approved training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, and I have completed over 70 hours of training and supervision in clinical hypnosis.
